Marilyn Chat Setup

Welcome to the Marilyn Chat Community. To get started we need to setup some chat system files on your computer, but please take a moment to read this page first. Then click on the link at the bottom of this page to begin the setup process. During the setup just click to accept the defaults when prompted.

Please note: The chat system only works on PC's with Windows 98 or higher. If you do not have a compatible computer then you are unable to utilize this system, Sorry!

The Chat System Setup involves a 2 MB file download - which is less than the size of one average MP3 song. The download and installation process is automated for your convenience. Just accept the default options when prompted.

Depending on your computer's speed, and your internet connection, the entire process will take anywhere from about 1 minute (with DSL or faster) to 10 minutes (56K dial up)

After the Setup is completed, enter the chat room by clicking on Start on your taskbar and then proceed to Programs/Marilyn Chat in the menu.

The first time you enter the chat room you will need to verify your registration. Enter your user name and password when prompted. The program will then close. You must wait at least 4 minutes before you can start the program again and login to the chat room.

Once you have registered, to enter the chat room simply go to Start/Programs/Marilyn Chat and then click the Login button when prompted. Your computer will remember your name and password and sign you in to the chat room automatically.

Should you ever get disconnected from the chat room or receive a program error message, exit the program, wait at least 4 minutes, and then try again.

SETUP

CLICK HERE to begin the FULL SETUP
and then select the OPEN or RUN option when prompted. If you are doing a re-install you may be prompted about keeping existing files. If so, say 'No to all' (do not keep the existing files)

CLICK HERE to download the EXE UPGRADE only. Do not do this unless you have been advised to by Danamo or one of the chat administrators! This will download only the chat program itself, and not all the sounds and emoticons, etc. This is for minor software upgrades if you already have the Marilyn Chat installed on your computer. Download the EXE to your C:\Program Files\Marilyn Chat folder.

Note about Firewalls:
If you are running a firewall on your computer then you will need to set your firewall to allow Marilyn Chat. The first time you start Marilyn Chat, most firewalls will prompt you that Marilyn Chat wants to access the internet, and give you the option at that point to allow it.

Technical notes and disclaimer

Should you ever wish to remove the Chat System software from your computer, go to Start/Control Panel/ Add Remove Programs, click on Marilyn Chat, and then on Remove.
This Chat System software and service provided free of charge here comes AS IS. No warranties, express or implied, are given. They have been offered in good faith and any consequential damage due to their use is the sole responsibility of the user. Every file and program has been tested, but due to the many factors which can vary the software cannot be guaranteed to work on all systems and with all versions of Microsoft Windows on every day of the calendar year.
