When you cook packaged foods in your microwave oven does it come out over or under-cooked?
All microwave ovens are not created equal. The cooking times for foods depends on the power of the oven.
The cooking power of a microwave is measured in watts. A 900 watt oven takes longer to cook than a 1200 watt oven
and an 1100 watt oven cooks faster than a 1000 watt oven.
The directions on microwave food packages usually state that their recommended cooking time is based on a specific power oven,
typically 1100 watts or 1200 watts.
Use the calculator on the left to adjust the cooking times on the package directions to suit your own oven.
First, from the package directions, enter the wattage of the microwave oven the directions are based on.
Enter this amount in the Instructions for Watts field of the calculator.
Next, enter the wattage of your own microwave oven in the Your Oven Watts field.
Now enter the cooking time Minutes and Seconds from the directions on the package.
Finally, click the Calculate cooking time button.
The adjusted time for your oven will be calculated and displayed in the fields at the bottom of the calculator.
Enter new values in one or more of the calculator fields and click the Calculate button to compute new results,
or press the Clear button to clear all of the fields and start over.
This Microwave Oven Calculator is also available as a free App you can download to your mobile phone.
